Warm the moment you put it on — no waiting for the fabric to warm through, which is the whole point on a cold morning in a cold hallway

Light for how warm it is — nothing pulls on the shoulders, so it stays comfortable through a whole evening on the sofa

Dry in a couple of hours — it holds almost no water, so it is back on its hook the same day

A hood on a robe — it keeps wet hair off the shoulders and off the back of the neck, which is the single thing that makes a robe worth keeping on after a bath

Find my size

Choose the size on your child's height, not on their age — two children of the same age rarely measure the same. Measure them barefoot, back against the wall.

SizeChild's height
5-6 years110-116 cm (43-46 in)
7-8 years122-128 cm (48-50 in)
9-10 years134-140 cm (53-55 in)
11-12 years146-152 cm (57-60 in)

Between two sizes, take the larger one — it will be worn for another winter.

Fleece, judged on what it has to do

A word from us

Fleece, judged on what it has to do

Start with what the garment is for: a dressing gown is for the hours either side of sleep: the kettle at seven, the sofa at ten. Fleece is a brushed knit: the surface is raised into thousands of fine fibres that trap a layer of still air. That trapped air is the warmth — not the weight of the fabric. That is the difference between a fleece robe and one that only looks the part.

In use it shows up as one thing: warm the moment you put it on — no waiting for the fabric to warm through, which is the whole point on a cold morning in a cold hallway. That is also what our childrens christmas dressing gown range is for.

Before you choose

Bought for winter, kept for the year — with a hood

Parents ask about warmth straight out of the bath and a belt they can tie themselves before anything else, and they are right to — it is where most robes fall down. The same need shows up in our older boys dressing gown.

 • Light for how warm it is — nothing pulls on the shoulders, so it stays comfortable through a whole evening on the sofa
 • Dry in a couple of hours — it holds almost no water, so it is back on its hook the same day
 • A hood on a robe — it keeps wet hair off the shoulders and off the back of the neck, which is the single thing that makes a robe worth keeping on after a bath
 • A Christmas present that gets used — the one gift that comes out of the wardrobe every evening for the next three winters
Washing, drying and storing fleece — through a British winter

Good to know

Washing, drying and storing fleece — through a British winter

Fleece does not absorb water. Straight out of the bath you will want to towel off first — for that job, towelling is the fabric that works. Machine wash cool at 30°C and air dry. Treated that way, a fleece dressing gown lasts five winters rather than one — the difference between a robe you keep on the back of the door and one you replace every autumn. That is also what our boys hooded dressing gown range is for.

Frequently asked questions

What size should I take?

Go by age, and size up if you are between two. The robe is cut loose and the belt adjusts, so a size too big is worn for two winters and a size too small is worn for two weeks. The full age and height table is in the size guide above the buy button.

What is it actually made of?

Soft fleece. In the hand it is brushed, soft and immediately warm. In use that means it is warm the moment you put it on.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cool at 30°C and air dry. A hot tumble dry flattens the pile and the softness does not come back.

Will it be too warm indoors?

Fleece is genuinely warm, and in a heated flat it can be too warm. Check your bedroom before you commit to it.
