The case for fleece — in a bathrobe

A word from us

The case for fleece — in a bathrobe

Start with what the garment is for: a bathrobe earns its place in the ten minutes after a bath, when you want to be dry and warm at the same time. Fleece is a brushed knit: the surface is raised into thousands of fine fibres that trap a layer of still air. That trapped air is the warmth — not the weight of the fabric. That is the difference between a fleece robe and one that only looks the part.

In use it shows up as one thing: warm the moment you put it on — no waiting for the fabric to warm through, which is the whole point on a cold morning in a cold hallway. That is also what our light pink dressing gown range is for.

What separates this from a cheap one — in a bathrobe

Before you choose

What separates this from a cheap one — in a bathrobe

Women ask about the cut through the shoulder and where the belt sits at the waist before anything else, and they are right to — it is where most robes fall down. That is also what our pastel dressing gown range is for.

 • Light for how warm it is — nothing pulls on the shoulders, so it stays comfortable through a whole evening on the sofa
 • Dry in a couple of hours — it holds almost no water, so it is back on its hook the same day
 • Belt loops that hold the belt — a small thing, and the first thing missing on a cheap robe
 • It comes back the same from the wash — no shrinking at the cuff and no shape lost at the shoulder
Washing, drying and storing fleece — when it lives on the back of a door

Good to know

Washing, drying and storing fleece — when it lives on the back of a door

Fleece does not absorb water. Straight out of the bath you will want to towel off first — for that job, towelling is the fabric that works. Machine wash cool at 30°C and air dry. Treated that way, a fleece bathrobe lasts five winters rather than one — the difference between a robe you keep on the back of the door and one you replace every autumn. On that note, see also our womens fleece dressing gown range.

Frequently asked questions

What size should I take?

Take your usual UK size. It is cut loose so it goes over nightwear without pulling, and the belt takes up the rest. If you are between sizes, or if you want to wear it over a jumper, take the larger one. Full measurements are in the size guide above the buy button.

What is it actually made of?

Soft fleece. In the hand it is brushed, soft and immediately warm. In use that means it is warm the moment you put it on.

How do I wash it?

Machine wash cool at 30°C and air dry. A hot tumble dry flattens the pile and the softness does not come back.

Will it be too warm indoors?

Fleece is genuinely warm, and in a heated flat it can be too warm. Check your bedroom before you commit to it.
